When I travel I rarely have the funds (or possibly even the desire) to do something of note every day, most of my time will be spent wandering and exploring and my last set of travels was very much along those lines.

I started out with two weeks in Reno with an old friend of mine who I'd carelessly not kept in regular contact with although, as is always the case with the best kind of friendships, the conversation almost carried on from where it had left off. There were several days when he and his wife were working and so I was left to my own devices in Reno which isn't the most pedestrian friendly place in the world, everywhere being spread out and the city centre far too dominated by casinos.

On one of my walks I passed by a graveyard on a cold but sunny afternoon and I saw a ripped photo stuck in the top of the fence. I crossed over to it and saw that it was of an old fashioned speedboat - the boating equivalent of those whale-tailed 1950's cars. There's no intended meaning to the scene in the photo I took of it: I didn't move the photo (for all I know it's still there) and I just took out my little Canon IXUS and took two or three shots of it, grateful for the brightness of the day to allow the camera to reduce the depth of field.

Even so there's something about that shot that I'm not sure I managed to improve on even when my travels then took me on to Australia and New Zealand. I don't seem to tire of the image.
