Just a short post to show I'm still alive. Running has been going well lately and my little running group has been exploring routes out of Stoughton that climb up into the hills along various trails.
I've been picking up a good turn of speed during the week when I run on the roads and the limited trails I can find close to home but it is the long hours out on the hills that are really what I look forward to - I love the speed but endurance is better.
There is something special about the tiredness you are left with after a couple of hours running on hills and that is all I can comfortably manage at the moment, the subsequent minutes tend to see me slowing down until the point at about the 2:30 mark where my body really wants to start throwing in a lot more walking.
I suspect that the endurance requires more practice and better nutrition both immediately before and during the run (I tend to skip breakfast because it tends to sit badly when I run not long after eating).
Some of my running group are training for specific races at the moment, mostly the Eden marathon or Eden half, whereas I don't have any races planned at all. It occurred to me to wonder what it was I was training for and it seems that, quite simply, I'm training to run these training runs; let's face it, being out on the hills with your friends is either the best kind of running or very near to it.
